‘Call Me Kuchu’ Documents Ugandan LGBT Activists

Here’s a preview of a powerful new documentary film, Call Me Kuchu, that’s currently playing at New York City’s Quad Cinema and opens next Friday in Los Angeles at Laemmle’s Music Hall.

Call Me Kuchu documents the struggle of Ugandan LGBT activists against that nation’s infamous (and stil pending) Anti-Homosexuality Bill. The primary subject of the film is veteran activist David Kato, whose photo was famously printed on the front page of Rolling Stone newspaper underneath the words “hang them.”

Kato was brutally murdered during the making of the film, but directors Katherine Fairfax Wright and Malika Zouhali-Worrall decided to continue production out of the sense of responsibility they felt to Kato, his family, and his imperiled LGBT community.
